Hey, I’m Luca! And I built Obex because for almost 8 years, porn ruined my life.
My parents raised me well, so at 14 I had no clue about anything sex-related.
Then I fell for a girl for the first time. There was only a small issue… She wouldn’t stop talking about sex!
Masturbation, porn, all of it. She made me feel dumb for not knowing anything, so I started looking it up. And before I knew it, I was addicted.
I’d throw away entire afternoons watching porn, but everybody said it was normal, so I kept going.
The first time I tried to quit, I lasted three days, then I relapsed. No matter what, I couldn’t go more than a week or two.
I tried everything. Apps, streak counters, blockers, a shit ton of willpower. Nothing worked. Most recovery apps were great at onboarding and selling you a subscription, and useless after that.
So I went nuclear. Blocked every porn site everywhere, even deleted my socials. It worked for a couple months. Then one late night, buried in work, I picked up my phone, and pretty much relapsed on the spot. “Just this once,” I told myself. “I’ll feel better and the stress will go away.”
I woke up the next morning feeling hopeless, thinking I’d never be able to stop. That I’d be addicted forever.
I didn’t have some cold turkey moment like a lot of guys do. I started talking about it with people, and slowly my willpower got stronger. Temptations were always there, but less frequent, so I thought I had done it.
Then, six months in, I went to a party with friends and got pretty wasted. That night, I relapsed.
So I finally told my Christian friends everything. Including the part I’d been hiding from myself: those 6 months weren’t actually clean. I kept opening porn sites, even watching some of it, telling myself it didn’t count as long as I didn’t… do the deed.
It was obviously still sin.
What saved me was God. I put Him first, before the streak, before my plans, before everything else.
Every morning in my Bible. Every call with a brother when I was down. Every long walk by the river, praying He’d rip out my heart of stone and give me a heart of flesh, one that hates sin. Little by little, He actually started changing me.
Some days I’m still tempted constantly. But I know how this ends. The war’s already been won.
Today everything is one tap away. I’ve spent over a year building Obex and talking to guys stuck in this, and I’ve seen how many lives it destroys. But I’ve also seen what God did in my life, and in so many others. Obex is what I needed back then, but not for the reason you’d think.
Not the resources, not the blocker, not even the community. Instead, it’s the little breadcrumbs of love God leaves for us every day.
Over time, those little crumbs change our hearts. They’re what give us the strength to fight lust.
And even when I’ve lost my taste for manna, the bread of heaven comes all the same, every day.
